The main focus of the module is to develop critical skills and knowledge for producing a problem statement, conducting a literature review, applying the different research methodologies and methods in to address the selecting research problems in the field of Police Science, as well as to generate findings, conclusions and make recommendations on research conducted. Purpose: The purpose of this module is to provide students with detailed knowledge, skills and values to conduct road safety and infrastructure audits; apply and interpret the five pillars of road safety as prescribed by the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020; explain the causes and the impact of driver fatigue on road users; analyse and apply the ten focus areas to improve road safety; explain the global impact of Road Traffic Injuries. Upon completion, students should be able to conduct road safety and infrastructure audits within the traffic law enforcement environment. Targeted students include SAPS personnel who want to improve on their road traffic enforcement skills, police personnel in the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD’s), municipal police officials, Provincial traffic police officials and national traffic police (NTP). This will also include police personnel of foreign law enforcement agencies registered for this module.

It aims to equip students with value, knowledge and skills to enable them to investigate and solve selected crimes within the ambit of the South African Constitution and Africanised as well humanised law. This module will also show students how knowledge in Criminal Law and Law of Criminal Procedure and Evidence, can be applied to crime investigations. The module incorporates the Africanisation of investigation by looking at aspects of Ubuntu, social responsibility and humanisation of the law.

Students will be shown how knowledge or related subjects, such as Criminal Law and Law of Criminal Procedure and Evidence, can be applied to crime investigations. This module seeks to incorporate aspects of Africanisation and indigenisation of law enforcement. Whilst it also recognises that the constitution is home grown and that the Bill of Rights advocated for Ubuntu, social responsibility and humanised law while investigating different crimes.
