Systematic Theology is not offered as a major at undergraduate level. For information on the five undergraduate modules on offer, consult the subject “Theologies in Context”. Systematic Theology can only be taken at postgraduate level.

 

Research Report – HRSTH85

Module presented in English Module presented online
Purpose: To allow students, under the guidance of a supervisor, to further develop their research skills.This will include: the collation of reading and research materials; the advancement of writing skills; the formulation and execution of an extended research report on a topic of their own choice within the broader field of Systematic Theology; the research design includes the submission of a viable proposal and the objective to develop and sustain interactive academic dialogue with the supervisor.

 

Approaches to Theology – STH4801
Honours NQF level: 8 Credits: 24
Module presented in English Module presented online
Purpose: To equip students with knowledge of the presuppositions of different theological theories and their related philosophies. The module incorporates in the material presented: (a) A continuing emphasis on the question “What is theology?”. (b) An exposition of different approaches to doing theology, here noting the relationship between theology, philosophy and the sciences. (c) The study of the presuppositions and the basic theoretical development of fundamental concepts and lines of thought of different types of theology.

 

History of Theology – STH4802
Honours NQF level: 8 Credits: 24

Purpose: A study of the development of christian thought and the paper include (i) The history of systematic theology as a discipline; (ii) The history of doctrines studied in Systematic theology;(iii)The study of a historical text and (iv) The theological evaluation of doctrinal development as a historical fact.

Purpose: A choice of any one of the following doctrines to be studied in detail: The doctrine of God, the doctrine of Creation, Soteriology, Ecclesiology and Eschatology.

Purpose: This module is designed to equip students with knowledge and skill to : to do research in the specific field of systematic theology; to design research reports in the field of Systematic Theology; to recognise and distinguish different research frameworks, designs and methodologies; to evaluate the strenghts and weaknesses of various research approaches; to develop and design an acceptable research proposal for a small research reportor an extended paper, articles in the field of Systematic Theology.
